The Yukari Yucca Project is a brand
new hybrid of multi media and culture.
The composition and production of original song and video is presented
to the audience in the form of
stories which people of all backgrounds can relate to.
I was born in Japan and was involved
with theatre in Tokyo. After graduation from university
I decided to find more education in America. My five years experience
in United States made me realize
how different our culture and common sense is. Wanting to give others
an idea of what
my background was like I developed my first show for the Sawaguzo
Japanese culture festival held
by the COC and Redux art studio.
My most recent performance includes two Japanese kid's songs which
are known 98% of children
in Japan. They are performed with the beautiful instrument 'shamisen'
(Japanese traditional
instrument). One of the songs 'Dona Dona' is really from United
States but it is hardly known in
this country !
My show continues to evolve and improve with every new story. Different
styles of using media,
such as shadow performances that can interact with characters on
screen by using rear projection
of video, help to maintain visual interest as the story progresses.
Interaction with audience members
also keeps show enjoyable to all involved.
I hope to educate public about the world they live in through the
use of traditional Japanese Songs and
new, more familiar music. When those features are put with a new
style of media and an engaging
performance, I hope all involved can walk away with a freshened
perspective of different cultures.
